November 2013-May 2014

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On May 29th  the school headmaster Ona Subaciene invited psychologist E. Karmaza, who introduced students’ parents to the stress management techniques. The lecture was very helpful to the parents. In particular, they liked the practical advice on how quickly and effectively to get out of the stress condition and help to control and reduce the stress to their children.

In April in the ROHROL website, the comparison of responses in the questionnaire about healthy lifestyle was presented. On April 10th the teachers who returned from Italy, shared their experiences. Teachers Audronė and Ilona presented a memorable slideshow of the Italian landscape, Fano city and interesting, purposeful activities that they saw in G. Padalino school. Teachers were happy because of the sincerity of School principals, Italian hospitality, enchanting smiles and wonderful parents of the families where our girls lived. We noticed that the curriculum is focused more on the building of artistic abilities (painting, music), therefore Italy is famous for its artists. We will try to use this experience at our school. Teachers who participated in the presentation of the trip, were treated to Italian sweets. Teacher Aldona fried meatballs stuffed with olives and teacher Audrone made Panna cotta dessert.

Teachers Raimonda and Inga collected information about non-traditional techniques of stress management, and prepared a presentation.

The proposal was considered to include laughter therapy during breaks.

In March the students made the daily menu of healthy traditional Lithuanian cuisine. Lithuania has the change of the seasons and the traditional diet is very different at different times of the year. So pupils made two versions of menus: one for the winter and the other for the summer.

Menu       No. 1
(For the summer)

Breakfast
Cottage cheese cuts “Tingineliai”
Snack
Fresh tomato salad
Lunch
“Saltibarsciai” (cold soup) with boiled potatoes
Dinner
Pancakes with fresh berries

Menu No. 2
(For the winter)

Breakfast
Buckwheat cereal with vegetable gravy
Snack
Baked apple
Lunch
Barsciai (beetroot and sour cabbage soup) with baked potatoes
Balandeliai (minced meat wrapped in cabbage leaves)
Dinner
“Svilpikai” with sauce and tomato salad

The dishes, which are healthy and easy to make and are familiar to the students were included in the menu. While preparing for the visit to Italy pupils had to choose a dish representing Lithuania and learn how to make it on the Cooking day. After the evaluation of a variety of Italian products and the kitchen equipment options of the host school (there were no conditions to use the oven or to fry), pupils decided to choose cottage cheese cuts “Tingineliai”. Students participated in the practice of the preparation of this dish, and then cooked it at home for their families.

March 24th - 28th the team of our school (four students and three teachers) participated in the meeting of project partners in Fano, Mars region of Italy. Partners from Italy (G.Padalino school) warmly met all participants of the project. Students were accommodated in the families of Italian students. A very intense and interesting program of activities for both students and teachers was prepared.

Monday: the first day of the visit was for making acquaintance and excursions to schools: we looked around the progymnasium, primary and pre-primary schools. Pupils and teachers were pleased with sincere greetings, emotional communication, songs and dances, performances, which introduced cities and countries. Everybody who tasted Italian dishes of Mars region and took part in joyful competitions “Athletic field” was happy. We were impressed by the school academic environment. It is not surprising that Italians call their classrooms “the laboratories”.

Tuesday: We took part in the solemn, formal welcoming in Fano municipality “Aula Magna”, and the meeting with the mayor. We understood that we were not only the guests of G.Paladino school, but the guests of Fano city. Senior pupils took care of us, guided and told us about the sights of Fano city. We learned a funny Italian word ALLORA. In the afternoon the students were learning how to make kites and teachers planning the project activities and reported about the work, which was done. Late in the evening, after dinner (about 10 o’clock) teachers were able to listen to the rehearsal of mixed academic choir of Fano city. Later we came back humming Italian classics...

Wednesday: a trip to the city of Urbino. Due to the rain it was difficult to look around the wonderful historical town, which is famous for its university and the palace of the Duke of Urbino. However we admired the exhibits and interiors of Marson National Gallery. By the way, the famous Italian painter and architect Raphael was born in this town. We spent the afternoon in the interactive Science Museum and Planetarium “Bali”, located in the beautifully renovated provincial villa surrounded by picturesque valleys of the Apennines Mountains, with cypresses, olive fields and belfries... In the evening Italian teachers taught our teachers to cook real Italian “Spaghettata”...

Thursday: The most exciting day was “Cooking day”. Small groups of students cooked their national dishes and treated the school community and the guests. It is important to mention that our students' team proved just perfect. Although Italian products and kitchen equipment is different from the Lithuanian, cottage cheese cuts “Tingin
eliai”
were delicious and looked good. We spent the afternoon in the volleyball arena playing volleyball. Later we all were waiting for the school community evening.

Friday: was farewell and going back day. In the morning pupils had fun in orientation competitions in the streets of old town (teams consisted of one Italian and one guest student). Our girls won the second and the third places. Groups of guests, one after another, left the wonderful city of Fortune and its hospitable hosts. Oh, a lot of tears of farewell were poured out on that day. Students spent the afternoon with the Italian families and looked for presents and souvenirs. Teachers looked around the Fano underground (archaeological artifacts dating back Roman times), the interior of the theater, hidden August atrium (courtyard surrounded by porticoes). In the evening everybody could listen to a free concert in one of the many beautiful churches of Fano. Chamber orchestra and mixed chorus performed works by Vivaldi and Mozart. It was amazingly good to see familiar faces among the performers: Italian teachers certainly are the part of the city's cultural elite.

Saturday: on the way home, we visited the famous Cathedral of Milan and the Sforza palace.

We would like to thank the Italian partners for the unique meeting, during which we realized that ITALY IS AN AMAZING COUNTRY AND THAT ITALIANS HAVE WONDERFUL HEARTS ... Respect, inner peace and patience, perfect emotional hearing, certainty, discreet but definite diligence, overall aesthetic feeling, inexhaustible cultural treasures and heritage. And there are still not all the values that impressed us in wonderful Italy.
